Hilton Swing
A native North Carolinian, Hilton Swing has called Flat Rock home for some 25 years. A graduate of the College of Charleston, he became a student of Art and Architectural History, and it was during these years he came to value and understand the close connection between Charleston and Flat Rock. Continuing with graduate work in Art History and Museum Studies at the University of St. Andrews, Scotland, he also managed to spend a little time learning the game of golf.
Seeking another great town where history is not just a dusty part of the past to be left on the shelf, he moved to Savannah, Georgia, where he opened a successful tour business, and spent almost 10 years living and working in the heart of Savannah’s historic District. While there, he and his wife became proud parents of two girls, and he served on the board of the Historic Savannah Foundation and was president of the Davenport House Museum, the flagship property of the Historic Savannah Foundation.
With history and home calling once again, and Hilton returned to Flat Rock with his family, where they welcomed the birth of their son. Returning home to develop and plan Braewood, he has also served on the Village of Flat Rock’s Sense of Place Committee, and continues to serves as a Trustee of Historic Flat Rock and as a Vestryman of the Church of St. John in the Wilderness. “For a young family, I can’t imagine a better to live…we are truly blessed to live here in Flat Rock. Every day I am here, I am grateful for the privilege of living in here. Great public schools, some of the most spectacular State and National parks in the country, and wonderful towns like Hendersonville and Flat Rock make this one of the easiest places in the world to live.”
