Flat Rock has a growing reputation for live music. During the summer, the Flat Rock Merchant’s Association, in conjunction with various local sponsors, produces the Summer Music in Flat Rock Series. On the 1st Saturday of every month, a free outdoor concert is offered in the parking lot behind the Wrinkled Egg and the Village Bakery. Bring a cooler, lawn chair, and an inclination for relaxation to this family friendly event.

This Saturday (August 7th) features Nashville-based artist and Wrensong Publishing writer, Sally Barris. Sally has managed to be successful in the mainstream world of country music without giving up her folk & Celtic roots.

Her unique style, influenced by artists such as: Tony Rice, Dougie Maclean, Triona Ni Dhomhnaill & Richard Thompson, is what makes her stand out in a city known for “cookie cutter” talent. Whether in her own hands or those of a well-established artist, such as, Lee Ann Womack, or a newcomer like American Idol finalist, Kellie Pickler, Sally’s music is unmistakably recognizable.

Some catalog highlights include: “Let The Wind Chase You” (Trisha Yearwood), “Reluctant Daughter” (Martina McBride), “Some Things I Know” (Lee Ann Womack), “I’m On My Way” (Kellie Pickler), “The Innocent Years” (Kathy Mattea) and “Honesuckle Sweet” (Jessi Alexander) which appeared in the Miramax film An Unfinished Life.

Farmer’s Market Thursdays

It’s mid-summer and everything is growing, including Flat Rock’s very own farmer’s market/tailgate market every Thursday from 3-6 pm. The freshest of produce, and everything from organic beef to the artisan creations of the Flat Rock Bakery are available at this community favorite.

Located just behind Little Rainbow Row on Greenville Highway, this week you’ll find plenty of all your favorite summer fruits and vegetables. And what would a summer barbecue be without chicken, beef, pork or shrimp? Top your tomato salad with some delicious goat cheese and fresh basil. Dessert? How about a slice of cake or pie from Marvelous Pies or something sweet from the Flat Rock Village Bakery. Flowers, Mediterranean treats, wild mushrooms, jams and jellies and eggs are always on hand as well.

This week at the Flat Rock Playhouse

The Flat Rock Playhouse is in the midst of yet another terrific season. New Artistic Director Vincent Marini and his talented staff have made this year the most innovative and entertaining season in the 70 + years of Playhouse’s history. A particular highlight from this season was the recent production of “12 Angry Men” which was staged in downtown Hendersonville in the historic Court House on Main Street.

The current production of the Broadway smash hit “The Producers” is currently underway and plays through August 15th. It has received excellent reviews by both press and guests alike. Next up: “The 39 Steps”
